I just checked out the digital seed chart Wow SCAL is in zones 23 24! It's weird for me to even contemplate that such a place exists. I live in zone 3

Sally - I loved being back East to experience the winter. And I also loved getting off the airplane at Bob Hope Airport on a 70 degree day! Okay I won't rub it in. But you're right, Spring is around the corner. What are you going to plant?

AITG - Thanks for the link - very useful. However, the instructor said that S. Cal doesn't have a frost date and to just use the digital seed chart which is what I did. I just planted a bunch of veggie seeds yesterday - hopefully the rain didn't wash them out!

Check out Victory Seeds for frost dates: http://www.csgn.org/csysg_trainer/HO-Average%20Last%20&%20First%20Frost%20Dates%20in%20CA%20Cities.pdf.

I start a lot of seeds indoors. It allows me to set out healthy and mature seedlings much sooner. I rarely direct sow because I soil block. I find it the most efficient way to sow seeds.

Wow! I read this post and then looked outside at the sun coming up over the ice and snow. It seems impossible that spring will come, yet it always does! A good time to think about the garden. Thanks, Evanne
